The Public Protector, Kholeka Gcaleka, has commended the City of Tshwane Metro for its strides in tackling the longstanding issues of water and sanitation in Hammanskraal. During her recent on-site inspection of the Rooiwal sewage treatment plant, Gcaleka noted significant progress in remedying the challenges that have plagued the area.

Gcaleka’s visit aimed to assess the implementation of remedial measures she recommended following her thorough investigation into the root causes of water pollution in Hammanskraal. She expressed satisfaction with the steps taken by the City of Tshwane Metro in addressing these concerns.
According to Gcaleka, measures have been instituted to ensure residents’ access to clean water. She acknowledged the efforts made by the city since October last year, emphasizing that the improvements signify a substantial process rather than an immediate solution. She emphasized that while the journey towards resolving these issues may be ongoing, the city has taken proactive steps to provide interim solutions while construction progresses.

“It is commendable to see the progress made by the City of Tshwane in addressing the challenges faced by the residents of Hammanskraal,” remarked Gcaleka. “The efforts undertaken signify a step in the right direction, although we must recognize that this is a journey that requires sustained commitment and collaboration.”

The Public Protector’s affirmation of the City of Tshwane Metro’s efforts underscores the importance of ongoing vigilance and accountability in resolving critical infrastructure challenges affecting communities.
