The groundbreaking of the 82-kilometre Minna-Bida road is scheduled for November 2023 and the project will be completed in December 2025, says Niger State government.
Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, told The Guardian in Minna, yesterday, that the compensation, verification and disbursement exercise had been ongoing for the past two weeks.
According to Usman, the state government, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Abu Dhabi Fund for Development will fund Lots 2 and 3 of the project, from Kataeregi to Bida.
A statement he signed hinted that the state government signed a contract agreement with a private firm, BENIJ Nigeria Limited, to provide consultancy services to the state for the construction of 556km roads across the 25 local councils of the state.
Ther SSG further said the government intended to implement various road projects in the state in line with its road development initiative, to address infrastructural deficit and boost the state’s economy.
He noted that road construction would promote agriculture, trade, industry among the populace.
Usman added: “The state struggles with an infrastructural deficit exceeding 70 per cent with its road network standing at the core of this challenge. For the state to achieve sustainable economic growth, developing a good road is key.”
