Youngster Victor Sila Wins KCB Golf Series in Nakuru

Handicap 28 golfer Victor Sila returned an excellent score of 43 Stableford points to emerge as the overall winner of the eight leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the Nakuru Golf Course on Saturday.

Sila beat his closest challenger Joseph Mwangi, handicap 28, who carded 40 points to be crowned the overall man winner at the event that was graced by over 250 golfers, the largest number to compete at the 18-hole course this year.

“We challenged each other in our four-ball to play well, I can say the first nine was incredible, a few birdies and bogeys. In the second nine, we also did very well and I can only thank my team for the good challenge. My appreciation also goes to KCB for putting together this incredible tournament,” noted an ecstatic Sila at the prize-giving ceremony.

Margaret Mutwasi, playing off handicap 29 floored all her opponents in the highly competitive showpiece to be named the lady winner of the day after returning 39 stableford points.

Eliud Siganga on the other hand, a seasoned golfer and KCB Bungoma Branch Manager carded 41 points to clinch the staff winner award. Handicap 18 golfer Gurtej Sahota emerged as the junior winner of the day with 36 points.

Martin Mbugua who plays off handicap 24 bagged the guest winner award after returning 40 points. John Kamais scooped the longest drive award in the men category while Mercy Nyanchama claimed it in the women category. Patrick Mbagaya won the nearest to the pin award.

Activities continue at the lush course on Sunday as juniors converge for a golf clinic before the afternoon’s tree planting exercise even as KCB embed sustainability at the heart of the golf series. On Monday, a caddie tournament will be held at the same venue, the second one held by KCB this year.

The tour will head to Limuru next month for its ninth leg as golfers continue to battle for spots in the tournament’s grand finale slated for December.
