The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has revealed the reasons for the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) completion of the N74 billion Wuye bridge, a 15-year-old abandoned bridge
Wike praised President Bola Tinubu for completing the interchange, which was officially opened on Thursday in Abuja. He also mentioned that the project had been abandoned for many years, leaving inhabitants of the Wuye and Wuse areas with depressing traffic congestion.
According to the Minister, the removal of FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) allowed for the completion of all the projects under his administration, which the President has now inaugurated
Wike said, “Anybody who is familiar with this terrain will definitely appreciate what you have done. This job was awarded in 2009, about 15 years thereabout at the cost of N34 billion Naira, but it was revised to N74 billion.
“So you can imagine for 15 years we were struggling just to construct one interchange.
“You can imagine the hardship the people here had to face. The business activities, of course, will crumble
“But to the Glory of God and with your determination, you have said that your mission is to bring back hope that has been lost. So people of this area will always appreciate you and thank you for this interchange”.
He added that “moving us out of TSA made these achievements possible. I sincerely thank you, Mr President, for this approval.”
