A report by the Somalian media platform The Shabelle Media Network revealed that warships belonging to Europe docked at the northeastern Somalian region.

The visit was followed by a meeting between the Deputy Director General of the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF), Mr. Mohamud Silal Omar, and senior officers from the EU Naval Force (EU-NAVFOR) Operation Atalanta, particularly the ESPS NUMANCIA.

They discussed security concerns in the region, agreeing that the threat to regional peace and stability could be deterred through joint operations between both parties.

The issues discussed included maritime piracy, illegal fishing, illicit weapons trade, narcotics trafficking, and maritime terrorism.

They also spoke about the success rate of joint operations so far, and how intelligence sharing has aided in the fight against lawlessness.

The effective partnership between the PMPF and EU-NAVFOR was underscored by the significant results of closely monitoring pirate activity and thwarting their concerted attempts to attack ships.

The meeting culminated in a consensus to set up more effective and aggressive strategies to prevent threats to maritime security as well as to further improve cooperation.
