One of the most prominent brick-and-mortar stores in the United States, Walmart (WMT), is set to lead one key sector as it becomes a must-buy stock before the calendar turns to 2025. The company has worked to diversify its offerings, as it could be one of the biggest surprises of the coming year.

With the holiday season upon us, there are few companies that are set to benefit as much as Walmart. Moreover, its success during the final two months of 2024 is set to build off of some major infrastructural and technological changes taking place. Altogether, these could create the perfect storm for the store heading into next year.

Walmart a Clear Leader as It Becomes an Undeniable Buy Before 2025 Begins

Although the United States has been caught in a fragile economic state for the last two years, retailers are making a comeback. According to McKinsey & Company partner Jessica Moutlon, Black Friday sales online are up 15% this year. Moreover, e-commerce spending for the Black Friday season surpassed the $10.8 billion mark.

However, foot traffic in stores has depleted, with 75% of shopping now beginning online. But that doesn’t change the overall economic impact of holiday spending. Consumers are poised to increase e-commerce spending by 63%. Moreover, there is one key sector that is the beneficiary of this spending.

Department stores have emerged as the key winners of the dual spending habits. Moreover, Walmart (WMT) has emerged as the leader in the entire industry as the stock becomes a must-buy before 2025 approaches. Indeed, the omnichannel retailer is able to benefit from stores, e-commerce platforms, mobile apps, and a presence in a host of markets, from groceries to electronics.

In fiscal Q3 of 2025, the company showed 6.1% growth in sales. This took place despite headwinds in the form of US port strikes and natural disasters. Its e-commerce business specifically has flourished. Walmart’s online sales have increased by 27% worldwide.

Alternatively, Walmart’s diversification is a reason to be excited. Its ad revenue grew by 28%. That coincides with a growing market share in the grocery and merchandise business in the US. With ad revenue likely to grow, 2025 should continue a record growth pace for the store. Moreover, it clearly emerges as the leader in all department store offerings in the country.
