Vodacom Tanzania is set to invest over USD 100 million in one of its largest-ever modernization programs, upgrading thousands of network sites and IT systems, including the M-PESA platform.

The initiative will enhance data speeds, call quality, and cybersecurity while expanding digital access in both urban and rural areas.

Already, more than 1,000 sites in the Lake Zone, Southern Highlands, and central regions have been upgraded. The program also supports Vodacom Group’s Vision 2030 and Net Zero 2035 goals, introducing energy-efficient infrastructure that reduces power use by up to 30% and incorporates Huawei’s green technologies to boost 4G and 5G performance.

Vodacom Tanzania Managing Director, Philip Besiimire, said:

“With this investment, we’re laying the foundation for the next five years and beyond empowering communities with better access, advancing greener technologies and strengthening trust with our customers, partners and investors.”

Aligned with Tanzania’s digital agenda and UN Sustainable Development Goals, the upgrades aim to drive long-term socio-economic growth and digital inclusion across the country.

Vodacom’s Network Director, Andrew Lupembe, said:

“We are optimizing tower space by introducing multi-band radio technology which accommodates all spectrums in one radio as well as bringing on board multiple frequency bands in the same antennas.”
