Vodacom Eastern Cape will invest more than ZAR400 million (US$22 million) in its network this financial year to expand coverage, boost capacity and extend connectivity to rural communities across the province.
The operator confirmed that ZAR38 million has been allocated to network modernisation to enable 4G and 5G, with ZAR87 million dedicated to capacity expansion. More than ZAR8 million will go towards core network upgrades, while transmission infrastructure will receive over ZAR51 million.
Almost ZAR100 million is earmarked for expanding coverage in deep rural municipalities in the SOuth African province including Great Kei, Nyandeni, Mhlontlo, Mbizana, Matatiele, Mnquma, Ntabankulu, Ngqushwa and Umzimvubu. Vodacom also plans to extend 5G to areas such as Amahlathi, Elundini, Enoch Mgijima, Ingquza Hill, Inxuba Yethemba, King Sabata Dalindyebo and Makana.
Vodacom Eastern Cape, Managing Executive, Zakhele Jiyane, said the investment will support growing demand for faster connectivity in the Eastern Cape, particularly in remote locations.
