Building a Safer Payments Ecosystem
The collaboration will focus on training, knowledge sharing, and market development. Both organizations will work with national hub operators and central banks that use Mojaloop. This will help create a unified approach to digital payment security.
In addition, Visa and Mojaloop will take part in industry events and thought leadership programs. Through these platforms, they will promote innovation and share best practices in fraud prevention.
As part of the partnership, Visa’s Account-to-Account Protect solution will be integrated into the Mojaloop platform. This feature adds an extra layer of protection for real-time bank payments. It helps detect and prevent fraud while improving trust in open payment networks.
Expanding Financial Inclusion Through Open Technology
Mojaloop is an open-source platform that connects banks, mobile money providers, and other financial institutions. Its main goal is to make digital transactions easier, faster, and more affordable.
This is especially important for underserved communities that still rely heavily on cash.
“This collaboration marks a major step in making digital payments safer and more inclusive for everyone,” said Joanne Kubba, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs CEMEA, Visa. “By combining Visa’s technology with Mojaloop’s platform, we are strengthening resilience and trust in instant payment systems.”
Paula M. Hunter, Executive Director of the Mojaloop Foundation, agreed. “We are excited to add Visa to our network of partners,” she said. “Fraud risk has been a key concern among Mojaloop adopters. This partnership gives them more options to enhance security and support safe digital growth in emerging markets.”
Visa’s Continued Commitment to Security
Over the past five years, Visa has invested $12 billion in fraud prevention. The company has built AI-powered systems that detect suspicious activity in real time. It has also partnered with firms like Featurespace and A2A to improve behavioral analytics and risk scoring.
These efforts have helped Visa block more than $40 billion in attempted fraud every year. This record highlights Visa’s commitment to protecting consumers, businesses, and the global payments ecosystem.
Together, Visa and the Mojaloop Foundation are creating a safer and more inclusive digital future. Their collaboration will strengthen fraud protection, boost financial confidence, and open new opportunities for digital payments across Africa.
