The US Air Force has contracted Raytheon to integrate the GhostEye radar system with the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS).
It’s a $12.5-million modification to a previous contract, cumulatively valued at over $50 million.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and includes further development and testing with the GhostEye MR advanced medium-range sensor.
The radar is part of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System and features enhanced altitude and range.
An amount of $8 million has already been allocated for fiscal 2024.
Advanced Battle Management System
The next-generation command and control system seeks to connect all the US Air Force and US Space Force’s platforms through cloud environments and new communications methods.
It is the US Air Force’s contribution to the Pentagon’s joint all-domain command and control effort to link the platforms of all the services.
It was originally meant to replace current capabilities such as the Airborne Warning and Control System and the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System.
Eventually, it became less focused on command centers and took on a broader scope to “create digital technologies, like secure cloud environments, to share data across multiple weapons systems.”
