The US State Department has approved the sale of M4A1 carbine assault rifles to Ecuador in a deal valued at up to $64 million.

The sale is expected to strengthen Ecuador’s ground defense capabilities by providing modern, versatile weaponry to enhance the operational effectiveness of its armed forces.

Along with the rifles, the deal includes Magpul PMAG M4 magazines, technical manuals, training, and program and logistics support.

“The proposed sale will improve Ecuador’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving the ability of its armed forces to conduct and execute military operations to counter transnational organized crime,” the foreign military sale announcement read.

The sale requires US congressional approval before it can be finalized.

About the M4A1

Developed by Colt Firearms, the M4A1 is the standard-issue rifle for most units in the US military.

Weighing approximately 6.5 pounds (2.9 kilograms), the M4A1 offers improved maneuverability, particularly in close-quarters combat.

It has a maximum rate of fire of 950 rounds per minute and can engage targets up to 600 meters (1,968 feet) away.

Equipped with a Picatinny rail system, the rifle allows for easy integration of accessories such as suppressors, grenade launchers, and night-vision optics.

The M4A1 is also known for its durability, built to perform under the demanding conditions of modern combat.

It is currently in service with over 30 countries, cementing its role as a key asset for modern armed forces.
