The United Nations has appealed for over $47 billion in humanitarian aid to address escalating global crises in 2025. UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher described the convergence of conflict, climate change, and rising inequality as a “perfect storm,” leaving 305 million people in need of relief worldwide. The funding aims to assist 190 million individuals across 32 countries, though 115 million will remain unreached due to limited resources. Fletcher highlighted persistent underfunding, with only 43% of this year’s $50 billion appeal met. This shortfall has led to significant cuts in aid, including reduced food supplies in Syria and water services in Yemen. Fletcher warned of tough prioritization ahead as crises in Gaza, Sudan, Syria, and Ukraine exacerbate global vulnerabilities. Despite donor fatigue, he urged decisive action to support those most affected by the world’s growing poly-crisis.
