The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has approved the delivery of Buffalo mine protected vehicles (MPV) to the Ukraine Armed Forces.

However, the number of vehicles approved for delivery has not been disclosed.

The US Army vehicle consists of a unitary armored capsule, blast-absorbing external units made of composite armor, and cumulative gratings for additional protection.

Features

The Buffalo features enhanced ballistic protection, shock-absorbing seats, and a V-shaped monohull chassis that directs blast energy under the vehicle, away from the occupants.

Additionally, it features 15 centimeter (5.90 inches) bullet-proof windows and a 9-meter (29-feet) articulated robotic arm, with a built-in camera and sensors for explosive disposal.

According to the ministry, the vehicle offers category III protection under the STANAG 4569 standard, which is enough to withstand a mine explosion force equivalent to 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of TNT.

Upgrade of Casspir Vehicle

South Carolina-based Force Protection Inc. manufactures the vehicle, which is basically a modernized version of South Africa’s Casspir mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle.

The Buffalo was deployed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and is in service with over 10 armies, including Canada, France, Italy, Pakistan, the UK, and the US.
