The Ukrainian military still has enough weapons to sustain its current fighting pace until the summer of this year without US aid, The Wall Street Journal has reported.
This comes as US military aid to Ukraine faces increasing uncertainty, nearly three years into the war, amid shifting political dynamics.
According to the report, Kyiv could run out of ammunition and be unable to operate some of its most advanced weapons if no other country steps in to fill the gap.
This would also force Ukraine to accelerate its defense production to sustain its current pace beyond August 2025.
The US has been Ukraine’s top provider of military aid, supplying over $100 billion in weapons and equipment to help counter Russian advances.
US Aid ‘Indispensable’
While the US provides only a portion of Ukraine’s military arsenal, its contributions remain critical, especially in the short term.
Among the weapons it has supplied are advanced air defense systems, ballistic missiles, and long-range rocket artillery — capabilities that Europe cannot immediately replace.
Some analysts warn that Ukraine’s ability to conduct crucial long-range strikes will be severely hindered once US stockpiles are depleted.
Additionally, it will face greater difficulty defending rear positions.
In response, several European countries have pledged billions in military aid to ensure Ukraine can continue defending its territory.
The continent has also ramped up defense production in preparation for the possibility of US aid being cut off.
