Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has approved the operational use of its new Droid TW 12.7 robotic combat system fitted with a Browning machine gun.

The decision follows a series of reliability tests, in which the tracked platform successfully demonstrated its readiness to support combat missions.

In addition to increased lethality, the Droid robot enables autonomous operations, as it can be remotely controlled via a tablet.

It operates on digital communications, ensuring soldier safety and operational flexibility even in the most difficult conditions.

“In modern warfare, technology plays a crucial role in ensuring an advantage on the battlefield,” Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Klimenkov explained.

“The codification and approval of the Ukrainian robotic system Droid TW 12.7 is a significant step toward integrating innovation into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

‘High-Tech’ Army

The approval of the Droid TW 12.7 is just one example of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to modernize its defense capabilities.

In the first six months of 2024 alone, the defense ministry has inducted nearly 500 new weapons and pieces of military equipment.

Kyiv has also quietly accelerated its plans to develop an “army of robots,” aiming to gain a tactical edge over Russia.

Klimenkov emphasized that building a “high-tech” army will help Ukraine withstand modern challenges and shift the momentum of the ongoing conflict.

For Nataliia Kushnerska, a senior executive in Ukraine’s defense industry, the rise of robotic platforms marks the beginning of a new era in modern warfare — drone-on-drone combat.
