The Turkish Armed Forces has officially inducted the BAHA unmanned aerial vehicle following inspection and acceptance procedures.
A vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) platform, the BAHA was developed by Turkish defense firm Havelsan for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
It was already exported to Africa, Central Asia, and the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region in 2023 and 2024.
“With our domestically developed defense industry products, which aim to enhance our national and international power and influence, the capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces continue to grow day by day,” spokesperson of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk said.
“In this context, inspection and acceptance procedures for the Sub-Cloud Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (BAHA) procured by the Land Forces Command have been completed, and the systems have been inducted into our inventory.”
Features
The 26-kilogram (57 pounds) platform features a wing span of 4 meters (13 feet) and a payload capacity of 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds).
BAHA can cruise at 80 kilometers (50 miles) an hour and fly at an altitude of 10,000 feet (3,048 meters).
It can communicate through a data link from 50 kilometers (31 miles) and can operate in a temperature range of minus -10 degrees Celsius (14 Fahrenheit) to 50 degrees Celsius (122 Fahrenheit).
Powered by an electric motor, the drone has an endurance of 2 hours and a wind resistance limit of 46 kilometers (28 miles) per hour.
Additionally, it can operate in electronic warfare environments, perform night operations, and is capable of autonomous recovery in case of link loss.
The platform is capable of joint operations with other unmanned systems and can be integrated with various mission-specific sensors.
