Top 5 airlines operating the most flights between the US & Africa

Now, globalization in the 21st century has been a major driver of growth in air travel between America and Africa. Increased global trade, tourism, and migration have necessitated more robust air connectivity.

Today, the route between America and Africa is served by several major airlines.

According to Cirium, seven airlines currently operate the most flights between the US and Africa, offering a total of 957 flights and 262,437 seats in June 2024.

Among these airlines, two are headquartered in the US, while the other five are based in Africa. Notably, two of the top three airlines are African carriers,

The number of flights between the US and Africa is growing every year. In June 2023, the same seven airlines offered 930 flights and 257,398 seats.

1)Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines tops the list of airlines operating the most flights between the US and Africa. The Atlanta-based carrier has scheduled 231 flights to the African continent for the month of June. Delta currently operates routes to five cities in four countries across Africa, including Accra, Cape Town, Dakar, Johannesburg, and Lagos, according to SimplyFlying.

2)Royal Air Maroc

Royal Air Maroc, the second airline with the most flights to the US, had 182 scheduled flights and will cover 197 million ASMs (Available Seat Miles). The airline’s most popular route is between Casablanca (CMN) and New York (JFK).

3)Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier by fleet size, operates 172 scheduled flights to the US in June 2024. Its key routes include flights between Washington DC (IAD) and Addis Ababa (ADD), as well as Chicago (ORD) and Addis Ababa (ADD).

4)United Airlines

United Airlines, the fourth airline on the list of airlines having the most flights between the US and Africa in June 2024, is scheduled to operate 164 flights in June 2024, covering a total of 303 million available seat miles (ASMs).

5)EgyptAir

Egypt Air

EgyptAir, the flag carrier of Egypt, operates 120 scheduled flights between the US and Africa in June. The airline currently serves three US destinations: New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), and Washington DC (IAD). Previously, EgyptAir also operated flights to Los Angeles (LAX), Detroit (DTW), and Chicago (ORD), but these routes have since been terminated.

The other two carriers offering flights from Africa to the US are Kenya Airways and Air Senegal. In June 2024, Kenya Airways operated 70 scheduled flights, while Air Senegal operated 17 scheduled flights between the two continents.
