According to the monthly report issued by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), oil production for some African countries increased in January compared to the previous month, however, this wasn’t the case for others.

In January, oil prices showed considerable volatility, rising to five-month highs before falling in the second half of the month, as per the latest OPEC Report.

Following the introduction of fresh US sanctions, market players became concerned about oil supply and trade, which mostly drove the rise in the first half of the month.

Furthermore, the report indicates that the 2025 global oil demand is expected to increase by a robust 1.4 mb/d, year over year, essentially unchanged from the assessment made last month.

Both OPEC and non-OPEC members, under the Declaration of Cooperation (DoC), averaged 40.62 million barrels per day (mb/d) crude oil production in January 2025, which is 118 thousand barrels per day (tb/d) lower, month-on-month.

“Preliminary data shows that NGLs and non-conventional liquids output in 4Q24 averaged 8.3 mb/d. According to preliminary December data, OPEC Member Countries and non-OPEC DoC countries are estimated to have produced 5.5 mb/d and 2.8 mb/d, respectively, of NGLs and non-conventional liquids,” the report states.

“The 2025 forecast points toward a combined increase of about 80 tb/d for an average of 8.4 mb/d. For OPEC Member Countries, NGLs and non-conventional liquids production are projected to grow by 0.1 mb/d to an average of 5.6 mb/d. However, a drop of about 30 tb/d is forecast for non-OPEC DoC countries,” it adds.

With that said, here are the African countries with the highest oil production last month in thousand barrels per day (tb/d).
