The looming threat of terrorist attacks and extremist activity is deterring tourists from visiting affected countries.

This has prompted international organizations and governments to issue heightened travel warnings, advising against visiting to various African countries.

As of January 2025, the United States’ government issued Level 4 travel advisories (Do Not Travel) for seven African nations, indicating a high distrust of African countries and a severe warning for foreigners aiming to visit the continent.

Understanding the dangers associated with travel to certain countries is essential for making informed decisions and conducting thorough risk assessments for leisure, adventure, and business travel.

By examining regional risks and issues, individuals can take proactive measures to protect themselves.

In some cases, this may involve postponing or canceling travel plans based on the current level of danger.

A recent study by CEO World Magazine has revealed the world’s most dangerous countries to visit in 2025.

Several African countries were classified as high-risk destinations, according to the report.

According to the report, several quantitative metrics were taken into account to determine the level of travel risk for a particular country.

The report highlights that the travel advice takes into account various security threats and challenges, including war, terrorism, organized crime, and armed conflict, on a yearly basis.

According to the report, the following African countries were designated as “high travel risk” with warnings against visiting:

Somalia, South Sudan were classified under ‘EXTREME RISK’ while Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Nigeria have all been classified as HIGH-RISK countries.

These nations face various challenges, including terrorism, armed conflict, and crime, which can put travelers at risk.

In contrast, Djibouti has been classified as a medium-risk country, suggesting that while there are some safety concerns, they are not as severe as those in the high-risk countries.

The report highlights countries that pose significant risks to safety and security, recommending that travelers reconsider their plans if they intend to visit these destinations.

The global “Do-Not-Travel List” includes 14 countries, with two located in Europe, four in Africa, and eight in Asia.
