It might represent momentary alleviation, economic stability, or political goodwill.

When an African country’s fuel costs fall from the previous month, the benefits are broad, providing both concrete advantages and symbolic optimism.

The transportation industry is usually the largest hit for countries that endure high fuel costs and conversely, this sector thrives seamlessly when fuel prices are low.

Commuters, commercial drivers, and logistics companies all benefit immediately from a drop in gasoline prices.

Given that transportation has a significant role in pricing, this can thus stabilize the price of food and other items on the market.

This sort of advantages are more prevalent in oil producing nations, particularly those that refine thier own fuel.

As a result most countries on the continent with the cheapest fuel typically consists of Africa’s oil producers.

Libya's two key oil export terminals are Ras Lanuf and Al-Sidra -- which are together capable of handling 700,000 bpd

Furthermore, due to the unstable electrical supply, many small companies in Africa, ranging from barbershops to cold storage sellers, rely on generators.

Their overhead expenses are decreased by lower gasoline prices, which enables businesses to run more effectively, service more clients, or keep employees.

In a nutshell, when fuel prices seem manageable in any given country, it improves economic conditions, raises confidence, and can act as a buffer against instability.

With that said, here are the African countries with the lowest fuel prices as of 14th April 2025, according to Global PetrolPrices, when the global average price of gasoline stood at 1.27 USD.

Compared to the top 10 list last month, when the global average was slightly lower at 1.26 U.S. Dollars per liter, fuel prices for Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Tunisia increased slightly.

Fuel prices for Libya, Angola, and Liberia all reduced during the month compared to to March.

While Fuel prices for Sudan and Nigeria remained the same.

Lesotho stands as a new entry on the list for this month, ousting Gabon from the 10th spot.
