That is why low diesel prices have an outsized impact, influencing not only fuel affordability but also the overall economic and social stability of entire countries.

One of the most immediate advantages of cheap diesel is lower transportation expenses.

Lower diesel costs make it cheaper to carry agricultural products, raw materials, and manufactured commodities between regions in nations where road transit is the primary mode of transportation.

This not only stabilizes food prices but also enhances market access for small farmers and dealers, therefore bolstering local economies.

Industries also gain greatly. Manufacturing factories, mining operations, and other diesel-powered industries may keep production costs low, ensuring that goods stay competitive both locally and globally.

Low diesel costs mean larger profit margins and less pressure on company expansion for small and medium-sized firms that rely on generators to power activities in areas with inconsistent energy.

Another significant benefit is energy security.

Egypt, for example, increased diesel imports to new highs in July as part of attempts to ensure enough backup fuel for power generation despite rising energy demand.

For a country that relies largely on dependable power to maintain its people and businesses, having access to diesel at reasonable costs promotes consistency in energy supply and prevents large-scale blackouts.

Low diesel costs also provide governments with breathing room.

By reducing subsidies and the social discontent that typically results from fuel price increases, governments may divert resources to essential sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, and education.

With that said, here are the African countries with the lowest diesel cost in August, according to data from Global Petrolprices.

Compared to last month, when the global price was $1.22 per liter, the same as this month’s figure, diesel prices for Egypt and Tunisia increased slightly.

While prices for Nigeria, Ethiopia, Liberia, and Zambia saw some reductions.

Diesel prices for Libya, Algeria, Angola, and Sudan remained the same.
