Fuel costs in several African nations continue to fluctuate as a result of global oil market changes, currency devaluation, and subsidy cuts.

These growing expenses affect practically every industry, from transportation to agriculture, exacerbating inflation and intensifying economic distress.

An increasing cost of living is one of the most apparent effects of increased gasoline prices. In nations where millions of people rely on public transit, rising fuel prices result in more expensive fares.

Workers, students, and companies that depend on reasonably priced mobility are all impacted.

Furthermore, the cost of transportation for commodities drives up the price of food, increasing the cost of essential requirements.

Increases in gasoline prices further reduce consumers’ buying power in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya which are already experiencing severe inflation, causing households to reduce spending on necessities.

Additionally, rising fuel costs have a considerable impact on businesses, particularly those in logistics, manufacturing, and agriculture.

Transport in Nigeria

The cost of shipping raw materials and completed goods rises, compelling businesses to either absorb the costs resulting in reduced profit margins, or pass them on to customers, making items more expensive.

Small enterprises are especially vulnerable as numerous African businesses rely on fuel-powered generators owing to unreliable electricity supplies.

With that said, here are the African countries with the most expensive fuel currently, as per data from GlobalPetrolPrices which tags the current global average of petrol price at 1.25 U.S. Dollars per liter, as opposed to $1.23 per liter recorded last month.

Meanwhile, fuel price for Malawi declined slightly. Uganda is a new addition to the list for the month, replacing Kenya which sat at the 10th spot in January.

Fuel prices for Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Burundi remained the same.
