In unstable and conflict-affected states, these professionals, civilians, law enforcement, and military personnel are sent to help with issues including governance, human rights, security sector reform, and election procedures.

Some African countries continue to be conspicuously absent or very modestly active in these missions, despite the fact that many have raised their contributions.

The low participation rate is a lost opportunity for these nations on a number of levels, including diplomatic, economic, professional, and strategic.

Participation in UN expert missions demonstrates national competence and global citizenship.

Countries that remain absent are more likely to be perceived as beneficiaries of international help rather than contributors to global solutions.

African states with limited experience in peace operations or UN expert participation are frequently ill-equipped to make a significant contribution when violence breaks out in adjacent countries.

This can limit their capacity to lead or influence peace and security frameworks on the continent and weaken their influence in regional blocs like ECOWAS, IGAD, or SADC.

In a nutshell, these nations forfeit a vital opportunity to demonstrate their presence and viewpoints on the international scene by refusing to participate in UN expert missions.

African countries without a voice at this level are marginalized in issues that directly or indirectly impact their interests, particularly in regional peace and security, as expert missions are frequently the foundation of UN decision-making and operational success.

With that said, here are the 10 African countries with the largest number of experts on UN missions as shown by UN data.
