USAID has traditionally supported development programs in Africa, concentrating on health, education, economic growth, and humanitarian aid.

However, recent policy moves under President Donald Trump’s administration have resulted in large decreases in USAID funding, which has had a dramatic impact on the continent.

Shortly after taking office, President Trump issued an executive order suspending foreign aid for 90 days and initiating a comprehensive examination to ensure compliance with US foreign policy goals.

This decision resulted in the suspension of USAID activities. The swift cut in funding is expected to have severe economic implications for aid-reliant countries.

According to assessments, the aid withdrawal may force an extra 5.7 million Africans into extreme poverty within a year, bringing the total to over 19 million by 2030.

Despite these challenges, Trump’s decision provides an opportunity for African countries to reconsider their development plans, prioritizing trade partnerships, local resource processing, and intra-African collaboration over-reliance on foreign aid.

Furthermore, despite Trump’s suspension of USAID, numerous African nations have received funds from the United States so far in 2025.

In addition, several life-saving humanitarian assistance programs have been granted temporary exemptions, allowing emergency food aid and crucial health services to continue in select nations.

With that said, here are the 10 African countries that have received the most U.S aid in 2025 so far despite the ban on USAID.
