Seven Mile Beach. Camana Bay. Rum Point. Cayman Kai. The East End. The Bluff. The Cayman Islands is filled with memorable spots — and now it’s getting even easier to fly to the tri-island destination. Porter Airlines, the upscale Canadian carrier that’s embarking on its first-ever expansion to the Caribbean, is planning a pair of new routes to Grand Cayman, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The airline, which runs a fleet of boutique Embraer planes with no middle seats and amenities like free wine and beer (and free Wi-Fi), will be kicking off flights from both Ottawa and Toronto to Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport.

The new Toronto route will launch Dec. 16, with three flights each week; Ottawa-Cayman flights will begin on Dec. 198, once weekly on Fridays.

It’s the first-ever flights for Porter to the Cayman Islands, the company confirmed.

“We are thrilled to welcome Porter Airlines to the Cayman Islands with its inaugural non-stop service from two key Canadian gateways,” said Mrs. Rosa Harris, Director of Tourism for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal. “Porter is a favourite among our cherished Canadian travellers, recognized for its outstanding service and comfort.”

Harris said the routes were the result of “strategic business development efforts” by the Department of Tourism.

“Canadian travel interest in the Cayman Islands is steadily growing and now passengers can enjoy Porter’s award-winning hospitality in every aspect of the flight experience,” said Andrew Pierce, vice president, network planning and reporting. “From the moment passengers step onto a Porter flight, they’re treated to a level of service that complements the charm and sophistication of the destination.”
