Teledyne FLIR has secured a $7.8-million contract to deliver long-range thermal surveillance systems and associated support services to Saudi Arabia.

Under the agreement with the Middle East Task Company (METCO), the Oregon-based firm will provide its next-generation Lightweight Vehicle Surveillance System (LVSS) to a “high-profile military entity” in the Kingdom.

The contract also includes mission support equipment and training to ensure the customer is fully equipped to operate the system.

Stan Crawford, Teledyne FLIR’s Senior Director of Business Development for the Middle East, emphasized that the LVSS will play a crucial role in securing borders, critical infrastructure, and shorelines.

“We’re honored to work with METCO in supporting a key military entity in its critical mission of safeguarding the nation,” he said.

The company did not disclose the number of LVSS units to be delivered to Riyadh.

About the LVSS

The LVSS is a compact, mobile surveillance solution that fits easily in the bed of a standard commercial pickup truck.

It integrates Teledyne FLIR’s TacFLIR 380HD long-range thermal imaging system with Ranger R20SS radar, enabling the detection and identification of up to 500 objects at ranges greater than 10 miles (16 kilometers).

Highly portable, the system allows a single operator to deploy and operate it in less than 30 seconds.

With a 16-foot (5-meter) mast that rises above trees and obstacles, the LVSS provides a clear, elevated surveillance view of its surroundings.

“LVSS is designed for missions that call for speed, mobility, and flexibility, and ideally suited to protecting infrastructure, bases, and personnel from both air- and ground-based threats,” Teledyne FLIR stated.
