Telecom Namibia has unveiled plans to extend fiber connectivity to over 3,000 households as part of its 2025 expansion program, with ongoing projects in Windhoek and upcoming rollouts in Ongwediva and Narraville.
Telecom Namibia Corporate Communications Head, Nomvula Kambinda, confirmed that three Windhoek projects—Augustenium College, Ambrose, and Luxury Hills—are nearing completion, noting:
“Customer connections have already started in all these project areas, as Phase 2 passed 2,619 erven. We have three FTTx projects currently underway, or recently completed, in Windhoek this year, and each has already started delivering services to end-users in line with our expansion targets.”
The operator is also awaiting regulatory approval to proceed with additional projects in Ondangwa Extensions 11, 13, and 14, as well as Swakopmund’s Tamariskia Extension 3, with timelines to be shared once clearance is granted.
This initiative follows Phase 1, completed in 2024, which connected over 5,000 erven in various Windhoek suburbs. Kambinda added:
“It is widely reported that our network infrastructure is prone to vandalism and theft, mainly of its copper cable network. Thus, fiber connectivity would aid in reducing service downtime by allowing us to restore services faster, ensuring that customers remain connected and our operations remain more secure against such disruptions.”
The fiber upgrade forms part of Telecom Namibia’s 2023–2027 strategic plan and supports the government’s broadband policy, while enabling trials of a new national broadband standard, guaranteeing minimum speeds of 25 Mbps.
