A technical fault on Ghana’s Jubilee FPSO has triggered a temporary suspension of gas exports to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, according to a joint statement issued by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas).

The incident, which occurred on May 10, 2025, was caused by a “system trip” that disrupted gas transmission operations from the Jubilee Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

The press release, dated May 11, was obtained by Energy in Africa.

“We wish to inform our stakeholders that on 10th May 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM, the Jubilee Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel experienced a technical issue that temporarily affected gas export to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP),” the statement read.

The two agencies confirmed that technical teams are currently working with the operator to identify the root cause and restore normal gas flow as quickly and safely as possible.

“The operator is making every effort to identify the root cause of the problem, implement the necessary corrective measures, and restore gas supply to the Atuabo GPP as quickly and safely as possible.

“Our technical teams are working with the operator to resolve the issue.”

Despite the disruption in natural gas exports, both GNPC and Ghana Gas assured the public that crude oil production from the Jubilee FPSO remains unaffected and continues to operate steadily.

“We wish to assure the public that the oil production system on the FPSO remains unaffected and continues to operate steadily.”

Authorities pledged to provide regular updates as efforts continue to resolve the issue and resume full operations.

The Jubilee FPSO, also known as the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO, is a key offshore infrastructure asset in Ghana’s upstream oil and gas industry.

Operated by Tullow Oil, the vessel serves as a central processing and export hub for oil and gas production from the Jubilee and Jubilee South East fields.

The FPSO began production in 2023 and is supplied by subsea wells tied back to Tullow’s Jubilee South East development.

The gas processed at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant supports domestic power generation and industrial use.

The Jubilee offshore development remains one of Tullow Oil’s core assets in West Africa, following the company’s recent divestment of its operations in Gabon for $300 million, a move aimed at reducing its debt burden.
