300 Youth Empowered Through Nationwide Digital Skills Program
Power Learn Project Africa (PLP), in partnership with Safaricom Hook, has graduated 300 youth from a transformative software development program. The initiative aims to build a digitally skilled generation ready to drive innovation.
The 16-week program, launched in October 2024, was fully funded. It recruited youth from all 47 counties in Kenya, ensuring nationwide inclusion. As a result, young people from both rural and urban areas had equal access to digital training.
Participants gained practical skills in front-end and back-end development. They also took part in hackathons, mentorships, and project-based learning. These experiences boosted their readiness for real-world tech jobs.
“This is more than a graduation — it’s a national investment paying off,” said Mumbi Ndung’u, Executive Director of PLP. “We envision a future where every young African can access digital skills, earn a dignified living, and innovate from wherever they are.”

Employers Urged to Connect with Ready Tech Talent
This program is part of PLP’s 1MillionDevs4Africa campaign. The campaign seeks to train one million developers across the continent and link them to real economic opportunities.
“We’re not just training coders — we’re nurturing creators who will shape Kenya’s innovation future,” said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom.
PLP now invites employers, startups, and partners to join in. Through its Talent Hub, organizations can connect with skilled graduates for jobs, internships, and freelance work.
“Africa doesn’t have a talent problem — it has a deployment problem,” added Ndung’u. “Many young people have the skills, but they lack access to real opportunities. Therefore, we urge employers to act and absorb this talent.”
Applications are now open for the June 2025 intake. PLP is determined to continue driving digital transformation and placing Africa at the heart of the global tech economy.
