Sweden has signed a contract with Turkish protective gear developer YDS to supply temporary replacements for the armed forces’ M/90 boots.

The agreement ordered approximately 70,000 pairs of boots, an additional option for 20,000, and 140,000 corresponding insoles.

The design for the footwear will have similar technical specifications as the M/90 and incorporate an enhanced outsole layer.

The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) wrote that the forthcoming boots offer improved protection and storage as well as higher heat resistance.

The shoe has the working name Marschkänga 24 and will be delivered later this year.

“Footwear is a complex area, which must cope with many demands, linked both to the external environment and to the characteristics and conditions of the person,” FMV Operational Support Logistics Head Marvin Lifbom stated.

The contract announcement followed the Swedish military and FMV’s coordination last year to address the evolving personal equipment requirements of warfighters.

“The armed forces tasked us with quickly procuring a temporary boot and we carried out the procurement during the autumn,” Lifbom said.

“During the intensive work in supporting the Armed Forces in meeting the need in personal equipment, the team at FMV, which works with footwear, is happy that we have now signed an agreement with Blue Aerospace AS for the procurement of new marching boots.”
