Starlink has officially launched high-speed internet services in Somalia, becoming its 25th market across Africa. Approved by the National Communications Authority (NCA) in April 2025, this rollout aligns with Somalia’s National ICT Policy, which aims to expand digital infrastructure and improve internet accessibility.
With over 70% of Somalis lacking reliable broadband, Starlink’s service is poised to enhance digital inclusion, especially in remote and underserved areas. Priced at SOS 40,000 (USD 70) per month plus an upfront hardware cost of SOS 220,000 (USD 390), the low-latency, high-speed internet could attract users seeking improved connectivity despite affordability challenges.
This deployment represents a significant stride toward bridging Somalia’s digital divide and fostering greater participation in the digital economy.
