Spain-based defense firm GMV has announced its selection for six projects under the 2024 European Defence Fund (EDF).

The initiatives cover mission systems, command and control, next-generation avionics, and space surveillance.

GMV will lead two projects, PRECISE and MYRIAD, and contribute to four others, reinforcing its role in advancing European defense innovation.

The Projects

The first project coordinated by GMV, PRECISE, aims to develop tools to help European armed forces anticipate and reduce the impact of military operations on civilian infrastructure, improving planning in complex environments.

The second initiative, MYRIAD, focuses on processing and analyzing satellite imagery by combining optical and radar data to support strategic surveillance and defense decision-making.

Among other initiatives supported under the EDF program, GMV is involved in CITADEL Range, which focuses on developing realistic cyber defense training environments to strengthen Europe’s readiness in the digital domain.

Another is FASETT2, a feasibility study exploring the development of a future mid-size tactical cargo aircraft with a payload capacity of up to 20 metric tons (44,092 pounds) to enhance strategic and tactical airlift capabilities.

In the field of advanced munitions, the NINJA2 project is working on intelligent and modular ammunition systems designed to operate in environments where satellite navigation systems are denied or unavailable.

Additionally, GMV is supporting iMUGS2, a project centered on advancing autonomous and swarming technologies for unmanned systems, aiming to improve force interoperability and multi-domain operational effectiveness.

European Defence Fund

The 2024 European Defence Fund will support 62 new collaborative defense projects with 910 million euros ($1.02 billion) in funding.

Earlier this month, the European Commission announced that the successful proposals were selected for implementation.

Since its launch in 2021, the program has invested over 4 billion euros ($4.5 billion) to advance the joint development of defense technologies among EU members.
