Spain has confirmed the delivery of VAMTAC multi-purpose armored vehicles to support Ukraine’s military efforts.

Developed by the Spanish company Urovesa, the VAMTAC comes in different types, including ambulances, anti-tank, and anti-aircraft models, and is also adapted for reconnaissance and support roles.

It can carry a wide range of weapons and reach a maximum speed of 135 kilometers (83 miles) per hour. The VAMTAC is also capable of navigating steep slopes and rough terrain.

The Spanish Armed Forces acquired 2,000 VAMTAC vehicles, which have seen service in overseas operations such as in Afghanistan and Syria.

Minister of Defense Margarita Robles confirmed the delivery to Kyiv during a visit to Urovesa’s facilities in Valga, where the VAMTAC vehicles are manufactured.

In May, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a security agreement in Madrid.

Sanchez announced that the agreement includes a pledge of 1 billion euros ($1.09 billion) in military aid to support Ukraine in 2024.
