South African President relaxes visa process for Nigerian visitors

The decision to ease visa processing for Nigerian visitors was made during the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission in Cape Town today, marking a positive development with Nigeria already reaping the benefits.

This move was part of the decisions made during the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission in Cape Town

The South African president, Cyril Ramophosa reiterated the country’s commitment to good governance, stating that it would support Nigeria’s efforts to establish a vibrant trade partnership with South Africa.

“Our efforts to create a favourable environment included simplifying the visa process for Nigerian business people travelling to South Africa. Qualifying Nigerian business people were granted a five-year multiple-entry visa,”

“As we marked 30 years of diplomatic relations, we saw a bright future for our relationship. Our strong bonds of friendship provided a solid foundation for more meaningful economic cooperation,” Ramaphosa said.

The Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) has been instrumental in fostering cooperation between the two nations since its inception in 1999.

The BNC has played a vital role in promoting dialogue, addressing shared challenges, and driving sustainable development in various sectors, including politics, economics, and social areas.

Ahead of today’s meeting, the Nigerian government made several requests, including South Africa’s backing for its inclusion in the BRICS group, the G20, and the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB).

These were aimed at enhancing the country’s global image and establishing it as a key power player in Africa.
