As US-South Africa relations sour, South Africa is preparing to propose a bilateral trade agreement in case its preferential access to the US market is revoked. The move comes amid growing concerns that the Trump administration may alter trade relations, potentially affecting South Africa’s position under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). Officials, speaking anonymously, confirmed that a team is being prepared to negotiate a direct trade pact with the US, ensuring continued access to the world’s largest economy despite potential changes in diplomatic ties.
