Currently, the South African billionaire is worth $17 billion, as per Bloomberg’s billionaire index, a far cry from the amount he began the year with.

At the start of 2025, Johann Rupert was worth $13.7 billion, a net worth he had maintained for most of the 4th quarter of the previous year.

Much like Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, there hadn’t been much movement in their net worth for months according to Bloomberg’s index.

However, this trend seems to have changed as Johann Rupert, since the first of January 2025 to mid-way into February (15th) has experienced a net worth gain of close to $4 billion.

In contrast, Dangote has gone from being worth $28.1 billion, to now $28.2 billion.

Other billionaires on the index have also recorded far less significant growth than the South African billionaire.

For comparison, the other Africans on Bloomberg’s index, including Nicky Oppenheimer, Natie Kirsh, and Nassef Sawiris, during the same period have all experienced a net worth growth of $600 million, $580 million, and also $580 million, respectively.

Johann Rupert vs Aliko Dangote

A report by Nairmetrics according to Forbes as of Thursday, February 6, 2025, showed that Johann Rupert’s wealth stood at $14 billion, more than Dangote, who at the time had a net worth of $10.9 billion.

However, current Forbes estimates show that as of today, Dangote’s net worth stands at $23.9 billion, almost identical to Bloomberg’s index, while the South African billionaire’s net worth is listed as $14.5 billion.

Going off Bloomberg’s billionaire index, the performance of both billionaires indicates that Johann has a Year-to-Date (YTD) change in net worth of +$3.32 billion, compared to Dangote’s YTD change of +$153 million.

As for their last change in valuation, Johann’s current figure stands at +$42.2 million, while Dangote boasts +$61.2 million.
