Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has celebrated the depth of bilateral relations between Senegal and Japan, marking 65 years of cooperation, on the occasion of Senegal Day at the Osaka-Kansai 2025 World Expo.

Faye chaired the International Economic Forum, which brought together senior officials, investors, and strategic partners to discuss opportunities for collaboration and cooperation. In his keynote address, he showcased Senegal’s economic ambitions and strategic assets, emphasising priority sectors driving national growth.

He highlighted Senegal’s energy transition, reaffirming the country’s goal of achieving 40 per cent renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2030. He also underscored the importance of the agro-industry, focusing on the development of arable land and local processing of agricultural products.

Infrastructure and digital technology were presented as levers to position Senegal as a regional logistics hub, while expanding connectivity and innovation.

In the fields of health and innovation, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pharmaceutical sovereignty and the advancement of telemedicine. He also praised the potential of Senegal’s human capital, driven by a qualified, dynamic, and globally engaged youth.

The president also noted Senegal’s human capital, driven by a qualified and dynamic youth, as a key asset in achieving long-term development. These priorities, he said, are fully aligned with Vision Senegal 2050, the national roadmap to build an inclusive, competitive, and resilient economy.

Reiterating the government’s support for private sector stakeholders, Faye assured investors of a reformed, stable, and attractive business environment. In this context, he extended an invitation to international partners to participate in the Invest in Senegal Forum in Dakar, to foster mutually beneficial partnerships for shared growth.
