Safaricom Posts 52.1% Jump in Half-Year Net Income

Safaricom (NSE: SCOM) has reported a 52.1% rise in group net income to KES 42.8 billion for the six months ending 30th September 2025.

The performance highlights continued resilience and strong growth across both Kenya and Ethiopia operations.

Strong Performance in Kenya, Improved Results in Ethiopia

In Kenya, Safaricom recorded a 22.6% increase in net income to KES 58.2 billion. Service revenue grew by 9.3% to KES 194.0 billion, while EBIT rose by 13.1% to KES 89.5 billion.

These results reflect sustained demand for mobile data, M-PESA, and enterprise solutions.

Meanwhile, in Ethiopia, the company reduced its losses by 20.1% year-on-year to KES 15.5 billion. This improvement came despite ongoing challenges related to pricing and currency reforms.

“This is a strong set of results and a solid start to our Vision 2030 strategy cycle,” said Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom Group CEO. “We remain focused on delivering our strategy through segment-led execution and integrated solutions.”

Investing in Communities and Future Generations

Beyond financial growth, Safaricom has continued to invest heavily in community empowerment. The company recently launched the Citizens of the Future program, which aims to benefit over 500 schools in Kenya.

Over the next five years, the initiative will provide infrastructure upgrades, 10,000 scholarships, and digital literacy opportunities for more than 56,000 learners.

“It has been 25 years of transforming lives through innovation and community empowerment,” added Ndegwa.

“Through the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations, we have impacted over 22 million Kenyans. Our purpose remains driving sustainable growth and positive change.”

Earlier in July, Safaricom also launched the Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation, committing over ETB 650 million to community projects.

The foundation will focus on education, youth empowerment, and economic inclusion, reflecting the company’s long-term philosophy of putting purpose before profit.
