Safaricom, through its youth platform Safaricom Hook, led a series of impactful engagements across Greater Western Kenya. The initiative empowered thousands of young people with technical, creative, and life skills designed for real-world success.

Skills that Spark Opportunity

Under the M-PESA Sokoni Caravan, Safaricom reached youth in Siaya, Vihiga, and Kisumu, equipping them with tools and knowledge.

At Siaya National Polytechnic, over 2,000 youth participated in masterclasses on plumbing, electricals, hospitality, and fashion design.

Graduates received certificates of completion, while top performers walked away with rewards such as sewing machines, phones, blenders, safety boots, dust coats, and engineering kits.

“We want young people to walk out of school not just with knowledge, but with tools they can use to start a business, get a job, or pursue their passion,” said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom.

In Vihiga County, Safaricom held the Hook Boda Boda Youth Forum in Mbale. Partnering with the NTSA and Kenya Red Cross, the event trained 250 riders in road safety, First Aid, and health awareness.

“We appreciate Safaricom for bringing this training to us. It shows they understand the challenges young people in smaller towns face,” noted James Mukoya, Boda Boda Chairperson at Mbihi Stage.

Celebrating Creativity and Building Income

To nurture the creative sector, Safaricom Hook hosted a Visual Arts and Talent Showcase at CITAM Hall in Nyalenda, Kisumu. Over 200 contestants showcased skills in spoken word, music, drama, dance, and visual arts.

Participants also received mentorship on monetizing their talents, accessing digital platforms, and building sustainable income from their passion projects.

All these efforts are part of Safaricom’s broader commitment to promoting digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship across the country.

Young people aged 10 to 24 can join the Safaricom Hook platform by downloading the app or dialling *555# to access mentorship, exclusive content, events, and life-changing opportunities.
