

President William Ruto has appointed renowned environmental activist Truphena Muthoni as an Ambassador of the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, Kenya’s flagship environmental conservation initiative.
The Head of State made the announcement after hosting Muthoni at State House, Nairobi, on Monday the 15th. He praised her resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to environmental protection.
“Truphena Muthoni is an exemplary young Kenyan whose dedication and determination embody the very best of our nation’s spirit,” President Ruto said.
National Recognition for Environmental Leadership
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to environmental stewardship, President Ruto also conferred Muthoni with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal.

“As a mark of national honour for her exemplary service to environmental stewardship, I have conferred upon Truphena Muthoni the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal,” the President stated.
Ruto emphasized that Muthoni’s appointment aligns with the government’s commitment to achieving the ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. This will combat climate change, restore degraded landscapes, and secure Kenya’s environmental future.
Government Support and International Exposure
President Ruto further revealed that the Ministry of Environment will support Muthoni in realizing her dream of visiting Brazil. Brazil is a global leader in environmental and forest conservation initiatives.
Additionally, in appreciation of her remarkable endurance and dedication, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) have offered Muthoni and her team a fully sponsored holiday experience.
72-Hour Tree-Hugging Challenge That Captured Global Attention
Truphena Muthoni first captured national and international attention after launching a 72-hour tree-hugging marathon in Nyeri on Monday, December 8.
The daring environmental challenge attracted massive support from Kenyans and global audiences. They followed her progress throughout the grueling three-day ordeal. Muthoni successfully completed the challenge on Thursday, December 11, inspiring conversations around tree conservation and climate action.
Guinness World Records Verification Ongoing
On Friday, December 12, Guinness World Records confirmed that the verification process is still ongoing, and no new record has yet been officially confirmed.
In a statement, the organization said:
“Truphena Muthoni’s tree-hugging record attempt this week in Kenya, inspired by a deep-rooted passion for trees and the vital role they play in our ecosystem, has inspired many comments on our social channels. We look forward to receiving and assessing the evidence.”
Guinness World Records noted that Muthoni’s current verified record stands at 48 hours, achieved earlier this year in Nairobi.
