A report by the Russian newspaper Sputnik disclosed Russia’s newfound interest in Russia has expressed its desire to strengthen ties with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to the Kremlin, the Central African nation is seemingly a very promising country for developing relations. This evaluation comes after the president of the Congo visited Moscow, the capital of Russia, on Tuesday.

A report by the Russian newspaper Sputnik disclosed Russia’s newfound interest in strengthing its economic ties with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), given that Russia believes that there is a lot of room for growth in this area. This interest was communicated on Thursday by the Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

[The Republic of the Congo] is a very, very promising country for us, a friendly country for the development of bilateral relations, the potential of which is very, very far from being fully exploited, so there is something to work on,” Peskov stated.

He also mentioned that the leaders of both countries were scheduled to meet on Thursday.

The president of the DRC had earlier told Sputnik that his country is open to collaborating on joint ventures in the nuclear, solar, and hydropower sectors with Russian businesses.

Also, the Russian Foreign Ministry mentioned this week that Sergey Lavrov, the director of the ministry, spoke with Jean-Claude Gakosso, his Congolese counterpart, on the work of the joint intergovernmental commission and how to foster bilateral ties. The commission is scheduled to meet in September.
