BRICS member Russia is looking to take support from North Korea in its fight against the US hegemony. Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea on Wednesday and the two countries signed a strategic partnership vowing closer ties in rivalry with the US. The development indicates that North Korea will come to Russia’s aid if the US presses further sanctions against the country.

BRICS: North Korea & Russia Vow To Fight US Imperialism & Hegemony
The strategic partnership between North Korea and BRICS member Russia mentions the US as an “imperialist” and “hegemonic” nation. The agreement also specifies that Russia and North Korea must combinedly fight the US “hegemonistic policies” and onslaught against their economies.

The agreement reads that both countries should “fight against the imperialist hegemonistic policies of the US and its satellites against the Russian Federation.” Russia and other BRICS members are forging new partnerships with other developing countries to strengthen their economies from US sanctions.
China, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) extended support to Russia after the US sanctions in 2022. The GCC procured Russian oil in 2022 and 2023 to help BRICS member Russia’s economy. North Korea is now the new friendly country to extend its cooperation with BRICS member Russia.

Kim Jong Un blamed Russia’s economic crisis on the US and West-led “hegemonic policy” and vowed to crush America’s interests. He also hailed BRICS member Russia’s “important role and mission in preserving the strategic stability and balance in the world.”
The streets of North Korea were placed with Russian flags with huge crowds surrounding their motorcades chanting “Welcome Putin”. The friendly ties between the two nations are growing and their dislike of the U.S. is increasing. Also, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken downplayed the agreement saying North Korea and BRICS member Russia are acting “in desperation”.
