RPL Gains Momentum as HRMPEB Releases April 2025 Exam Results
In a bold move reshaping professional certification in Kenya’s HR sector, the Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB) has renewed its focus on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
This initiative gives experienced HR practitioners a pathway to formal certification without retracing years of study.
The announcement came during the release of the April 2025 CHRP, CBET Diploma, and Craft Certificate examination results. CS Sharon Kisire, Chairperson of HRMPEB, underscored the rising importance of RPL.
She described it as a critical tool for professional growth, equity, and inclusivity. Her message was clear: Kenya’s HR profession is not just evolving it’s opening its doors wider than ever.
Bridging Experience and Opportunity
Recognition of Prior Learning is designed for individuals who have gained HR expertise through work, informal learning, or self-study. Instead of starting from scratch, candidates can undergo structured assessments to earn nationally recognized certifications.
This model is especially relevant for HR officers, administrators, and consultants. Many of them have solid, hands-on experience but never had the chance to pursue formal qualifications. Now, their experience can count.

RPL is a game-changer. It bridges the gap between what people know and the papers they hold. Candidates can showcase their competencies through portfolios, interviews, or workplace evaluations. These are assessed by HRMPEB professionals and aligned with the Kenya National Qualifications Framework.
Moreover, the RPL program supports Kenya’s shift to a skills-based economy. It’s aligned with government policy and is expected to improve service delivery across various sectors. HRMPEB is rolling out the initiative in partnership with key stakeholders, including the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), TVETA, employers, and TVET institutions. Together, they are establishing training, sensitization, and assessment centers nationwide.
Recognition That Goes Beyond Titles
As Kenya embraces competency-based training, RPL offers hope to thousands who’ve long worked in HR without official recognition. It validates their long nights solving crises, the policies they shaped, and the teams they led—often without formal titles.
The future of HR is inclusive. It recognizes everyone who has contributed to the profession, whether they began in a formal office, in the field, or simply learned on the job. With RPL, their journey finally gets the recognition it deserves.
