Rosetti Marino will build a gas recovery module for Saipem, on a project offshore Libya.

Rosetti said the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was worth more than 300 million euros. Saipem is working on the project under a contract from Mellitah Oil & Gas, a joint venture of National Oil Corp. (NOC) and Eni.

Rosetti said it would build the 5,000 tonne module and install it on the DP4 offshore structure. Its work includes engineering, material procurement, construction work and load out. The company will also provide platform modification activities on DP4 and renovate the accommodation on the platform.

The Italian company said it would begin work immediately and expected to complete this in early 2026.

Rosetti CEO Oscar Guerra said the contract confirmed his company’s “commitment and competitiveness in the Mediterranean offshore. The completion of the project will contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions in Libya.”

Saipem won work on the Bouri Gas Utilisation Project in August, with a contract worth $1 billion. The company said this would involve revamping platforms and facilities on the Bouri field, including the gas recovery module installation on DP4.

In addition, Saipem will lay 28 km of pipelines to connect the DP3, DP4 and Sabratha platforms.

Eni, earlier this year, said it expected the Bouri gas project to start up in 2025.

The Bouri field produces about 30,000 barrels per day of oil, via the DP3 and DP4 platforms. The associated gas resource on the field is reported to be 3.5 trillion cubic feet.

Wood carried out a study on gas utilisation at Bouri in 2019. The plan involves gathering gas from the two platforms and then exporting, via the Sabratha platform, to the onshore Mellitah plant.
