Rosatom Highlights Nuclear Solutions at Enlit 2025
Participation highlights long-term commitment to sustainable energy partnerships across the continent
Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation presented its latest nuclear innovations at Enlit Africa 2025, held from May 20 to 22 in Cape Town, South Africa. The corporation’s participation reflects its focus on long-term, resilient energy solutions tailored for the continent.
At the exhibition stand, visitors experienced a multimedia display on Floating Power Unit (FPU) technologies, saw a model of the RITM-200 reactor, and learned about in-situ uranium recovery—a method that extracts uranium by injecting solvents into underground ore deposits.
The event drew representatives from national energy institutions in South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya, along with leaders of major power companies.
A major highlight was the panel discussion titled “80 Years of Russian Nuclear Legacy: Powering Africa’s Sustainable Future with Floating Nuclear Units.” It featured top officials including Sengiphile Simelane from NECSA (South Africa), Dr. Robert Sogbadji from Ghana’s Ministry of Energy, and Vladimir Aptekarev from Rosatom.
Speakers explored how floating nuclear units could help fill energy gaps in areas with limited infrastructure.
“These technologies offer Africa a reliable, clean power source tailored to its geographic and economic needs,” said Aptekarev. “They bring energy to remote communities and industrial zones, promoting sustainability and independence.”

Nuclear Milestones Mark a Legacy of Global Collaboration
Vadim Titov, Director General of Rosatom International Network and head of the delegation, noted that 2025 marks two milestones: 80 years of Russia’s nuclear industry and 60 years of the SAFARI-1 research reactor in South Africa.
He stated, “These anniversaries reflect our shared dedication to peaceful nuclear development. Today, Rosatom stands as a trusted partner offering flexible and sustainable energy solutions across Africa. Together, we are laying the foundation for a secure and prosperous future.”
For context, Enlit Africa remains one of the continent’s leading platforms for energy dialogue. It brings together policymakers, investors, and innovators to discuss solutions for a more inclusive and climate-resilient energy system. Within this setting, nuclear energy is gaining recognition as a key component in Africa’s energy mix.
Rosatom, a global leader in low-carbon energy, operates in over 10 countries with 39 nuclear units under construction. The corporation provides full-cycle solutions, from plant construction and training to fuel supply and waste management.
