Chemring Group subsidiary Roke has been awarded a framework contract by the UK Ministry of Defence to lead a wide range of research activities supporting the country’s missile defense.

The 251-million-pound ($333 million) contract involves a collaborative effort aimed at protecting the UK and its allies from current and future threats, including ballistic and hypersonic missiles.

In partnership with the UK Missile Defence Centre (MDC), Roke will deliver key components of the project and coordinate with industry partners responsible for most of the contract’s execution.

The work includes bringing together technical experts from across the UK defense sector.

More than 95 percent of the contract value will be delivered by a UK-based workforce, supporting the development and sustainment of sovereign missile defense capabilities.

“We are delighted to be recognised as the right organisation to deliver STORM (science & technology oriented research & development in missile defence framework) for the UK MDC,” Managing Director at Roke Paul MacGregor said.

STORM Framework

The six-year STORM framework covers a broad spectrum of missile defense efforts, including counter-proliferation, deterrence, counterforce, and both active and passive defense.

Research will focus on threats such as maneuvering reentry vehicles, multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles, hypersonic glide vehicles, and hypersonic cruise missiles.

The effort includes a three-year extension option and will inform critical UK defense policy while supporting the development of next-generation missile defense capabilities.

“Missile defence is crucial to protecting the UK’s interests in an increasingly complex threat landscape,” MacGregor added.

“As adversaries develop and use more advanced capabilities, the ability to detect, identify, and defeat missile threats is essential to safeguarding the UK and its allies. At Roke, we are committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions that enhance resilience and ensure a decisive advantage in Defence.”
