Rheinmetall has signed a deal to supply an undisclosed NATO member with rocket launcher ammunition amounting to more than 300 million euros ($326 million).

The order states that the capabilities will be designed to reach a maximum range of 186 miles (300 kilometers). Additional logistic services and systems will be covered by the agreement.

This marks Rheinmetall’s first sales success in rocket artillery.

The rockets will be manufactured by Rheinmetall Expal Munitions of Spain, which was acquired by the arms giant in 2022 to function as its core ammunition manufacturing venture.

Deliveries for the weapons will take place from 2024 to 2027.

Rheinmetall Expands

An official statement from Rheinmetall describes the sale as the company “vindicating the recent strategic expansion of its product portfolio.”

Their expansion into new territories includes the groundbreaking of a new ammunition factory in Unterlüß, Germany, which is set to produce around 200,000 shells a year.

Rheinmetall has also expanded its arms production in countries including Hungary and Ukraine, the latter being a direct response to the country’s ongoing need for military capabilities amid the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.

Plans for a NATO-standard artillery shell plant in Lithuania are also in the works.
