Reservoirs in uMhlanga and Sunningdale recover following water interval

The eThekwini Municipality has reported the gradual return of water services to most northern regions. However, specific command reservoirs, including uMhlanga 2, Sunningdale Tower, Trenance 1, and Trenance 3, are still in the process of recuperation. Residents relying on these reservoirs can expect their water supply to be fully restored as water levels improve by the end of the day, according to City spokesperson Gugu Sisilana.

Sisilana further noted that some of the city’s reservoirs exceeded the 50% capacity mark due to the adjustment of inflows and outflows at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works by Umngeni-uThukela Water, facilitating quicker refilling of downstream reservoirs. With these improvements, reservoir outlets were opened in the morning, resulting in the resumption of water supply to certain residents. For those who receive their water through the Ntuzuma 2 pump station, intermittent supply will continue due to the station not operating at full capacity. As a temporary measure, water tankers are being deployed to provide residents with water. The municipality has issued an apology for any inconvenience caused.

Areas that are not yet fully restored include: uMhlanga, Ilala Ridge, Hawaan Forest, uMhlanga Manors, Westridge, Blackburn, Somerset Park, La Lucia Ridge, Glen Anil, Amaoti, Trenance Park, Redcliff, Bufellsdraai, Tea Estate, Valley View, Dawn Crest, Oaklands, Surya Heights, Sana Township, Ridge River, Mount View, and Parkgate.
