

It is with profound sorrow, and in humble submission to God’s will, that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Peter Kairu Gachanja, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia. His love, strength, kindness, and steady presence blessed our lives beyond measure, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Family Lineage
Peter was the beloved son of Stephen Maina Gachanja and the late Naomi Wanjiru Gachanja, of Kiandege Sub-Location, Njabini, South Kinangop, Nyandarua County.
He was a loving brother to Mary Wanjiku, and the late James Kamau, Joseph Ruara, David Wanjama, and John Chege. He was also a devoted uncle and a trusted friend to many.
Marriage and Children
Peter was the devoted husband of Martha Kairu, of Virginia, USA.
He was a loving and caring father to Stephen Maina Kairu, Caroline Wanjiru Kairu, and Martin Njora Kairu, all of the USA.
He was a proud and doting grandfather to Yazmine Wambui Maina and Ethan Kairu Maina, who brought him immense joy.
Early Life and Education
Born in 1955 in Njabini, Peter was the third child of Stephen Gachanja Kangoro and Naomi Wanjiru Gachanja. He attended Njabini Primary School (1964–1971) and Muhoho High School (1972–1975).
He later joined Egerton College (1976–1979), where he earned a Diploma in Agriculture, laying the foundation for a life of diligence and service.
Career and Life in the United States
After completing his studies, Peter served faithfully for many years at the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) in Kenya.
In 2000, he immigrated to the United States, where he built a life rooted in hard work and integrity. For most of his years in the US, he was a dedicated employee at Walmart, where he was respected for his reliability, humility, and strong work ethic until his passing.

Family and friends are meeting daily at the family home in Richmond, Virginia, and in Kiandege, South Kinangop, Nyandarua County, Kenya.
