Israeli Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has secured a contract to provide its “Digital Shark” naval electronic countermeasure (ECM) system for an unnamed NATO country.

Digital Shark is designed to act instantaneously and autonomously as it deceives and suppresses various threats from different directions simultaneously.

It is equipped with Active Electronically Scanned Array transmitters and multiple Digital Radio Frequency Memory channels for enhanced jamming capabilities against multiple incoming enemy radar signals.

With receiver sensitivity better than negative 65 dBmi, it can effectively pick up extremely faint signals.

It uses various techniques to mislead adversaries.

One method is the RGPO/I (Range Gate Pull Off/In) to manipulate the perceived distance of a target, while the other is VGPO/I (Velocity Gate Pull Off/In) to alter the perceived speed of a target.

The system can also create fake signals for distraction, AM modulation, and various noise and spoofing techniques.

Aside from integration with naval vessels, it is also suitable on land as a complementary sensor and effector in air defense systems.

Operators can mount the Digital Shark on a vehicle or with a pedestal and control it locally or remotely.

“We are honored to support this specific fleet with a cutting-edge system that strengthens electronic defense and bolsters offensive responses to today’s advanced radar threats,” Vice President and Head of Rafael’s Naval Systems Division Ran Tavor stated.
